On January 20, Eastern Time, the president-elect Donald Trump is about to officially assume office as the 47th president of the USA.
On Eastern Time this past Monday (January 13), Donald Trump's presidential transition team announced the schedule of activities before and after his inauguration, including an official party, MAGA rally, large fireworks display, and Other event arrangements.
It is reported that Trump's inauguration committee has raised more than 0.17 billion dollars and is expected to ultimately raise 0.2 billion dollars.
According to calculations by the nonprofit organization OpenSecrets, which tracks political funding in the USA, the expenditure for Trump's inauguration activities will amount to an average of about 0.037 million dollars per minute, more than four times Obama's first inauguration ceremony spending of 8600 dollars per minute.
Trump will hold the inauguration activities at his own golf course.
The schedule of inauguration events announced by Trump's team lasts four days, including fireworks displays and VIP events held at Trump's golf course outside Washington, D.C., a celebration rally held the night before his swearing-in ceremony, and three balls after the inauguration ceremony.
In terms of location selection, several of Trump's inauguration celebration activities will take place at his golf course in Virginia, which is different from recent inaugurations mainly held in Washington, D.C.
For example, the fireworks show for President Joe Biden's inauguration in 2021 was held at the National Mall in Washington, while Trump's inauguration fireworks will be launched at Trump's golf club, located 20 miles from Capitol Hill, mostly out of public view.
The average expenditure is approximately 0.037 million USD per minute.
According to the inauguration standards of recent presidents, this arranged inauguration ball has only three events, which is relatively few—considering that Trump's inauguration committee has a record amount of funds available, this number seems even smaller: according to American media reports, the Trump-Vance inauguration committee has raised over 0.17 billion USD and is expected to raise over 0.2 billion USD for inauguration activities and operation.
According to calculations by OpenSecrets, Trump's four-day inauguration expenditure would be equivalent to an average expenditure of approximately 0.037 million USD per minute.
In contrast, former USA President Obama had 10 official balls and dozens of other unofficial events during his 2009 inauguration. His inauguration committee raised over 53 million USD, setting a record at that time.
In 1997, former USA President Bill Clinton held a record 14 official balls at his second inauguration, while his inauguration committee raised less than 24 million USD.
In 2021, President Biden did not hold any balls during the inauguration due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Trump's large-scale fundraising efforts and relatively few scheduled events are similar to his situation when he first took office in 2017: during Trump's first inauguration in 2017, his inauguration committee raised 0.107 billion USD in just two days of activities, spending over 97 million USD.
Numerous businesses actively contributed funds.
Since Trump has already indicated that he would implement several large-scale economic policies once in office—including possibly imposing tariffs while reducing various other taxes and regulations—many major companies in the USA have proactively donated to his team, seemingly eager to smooth relations with him.
This influence has also extended to Trump's inaugural committee, which has already received millions of dollars in donations from many companies. Last week, outgoing Federal Trade Commission Chair Lina Khan hinted that Amazon and Meta may be working to reach a 'sweetheart deal' with the Trump administration.
Reportedly, to respond to the growing interest in courting Trump, Trump's inauguration committee has required top donors to provide at least 1 million dollars (double the amount requested in 2017) in order to gain the opportunity to meet with Trump or Vance directly.
