On January 10th, the refreshed Model Y officially launched on Tesla's China official website, alongside the premiere version of the model, with a starting pre-sale price of 0.2635 million yuan. The new car has seen various upgrades in appearance, cabin, and range.

New car appearance exposed

In terms of appearance, the refreshed Model Y draws design inspiration from the Cyber Off-Road Station Wagon and the Cyber Autonomous Electric Vehicle, resulting in a more robust overall shape and smoother lines.

The new car's front face design, front and rear headlights, rear diffuser, Car Rims, and side mirrors are all new designs, among which the rear features the world's first diffuse tail light.

Tesla introduced that not only does the refreshed Model Y operate more steadily, quietly, and efficiently at high speeds, but its driving efficiency and range capabilities have also been significantly enhanced: acceleration from 0-100 km/h is improved to a maximum of 4.3 seconds; through multiple optimizations across the vehicle, the new car achieves over 30 kilometers of increased range, with a maximum range of 719 kilometers (CLTC estimate), providing a low energy consumption performance of 11.9Wh/km (CLTC conditions).

In addition, in terms of the cabin, the newly tuned suspension system improved the vibration filtering effect on rough roads by 51%; new surround ambient lighting, front seat ventilation, and rear seats that have been extended by another 15mm.

Sales have begun to take action.

According to e company reporters, while the new Model Y is launched, sales in all Tesla China stores have also launched promotional efforts at the first opportunity.

"The new model is extremely popular, the order volume is sharply rising, and spots are limited, first come first served!" Tesla sales in the Shanghai area told reporters that a down payment of 1000 yuan is required to reserve a new car, which is refundable. The first edition is available for limited-time sale until February 28, offering a 2-year/0.04 million kilometers extended warranty service, which can be combined with 5 years of interest-free installment. The new car is expected to be delivered starting in March, pending approval from regulatory authorities.

It is reported that on the day the new car was launched, Tesla also introduced charging rights for new Model Y/3 owners: Cybervault home charging piles at 75% off, or 3 years 0.03 million kilometers of supercharging (based on the first come first served). 1299 yuan can choose one of the two. "The introduction of special charging rights allows more Tesla owners to avoid worries about charging prices, efficiency, and convenience, truly making Tesla charging more convenient than refueling," stated Tesla.

On January 2, local time, Tesla's latest data showed that in 2024, Tesla produced a total of 1.7734 million units and delivered 1.7892 million units, a decrease of 1.1% compared to the delivery volume of 1.81 million units in 2023. Sales fell short of expectations, with market voices suggesting that Tesla's current main models are aging, facing a dilemma of weak growth.

On the morning of the 10th, Tesla's official public account promotional slogan displayed "Revitalized Model Y, despite comparisons." To this, Xiaomi founder, Director, and CEO Lei Jun took a screenshot of the content in Tesla's public account and posted on Weibo saying "Good," along with the tag "Xiaomi YU7."

Last month, Xiaomi Auto officially announced that the new SUV model, codenamed YU7, is expected to compete with the Tesla Model Y and will be launched this year. As of the release of this article, Xiaomi YU7 ranks first on Weibo's trending searches, while Model Y is in ninth place.

According to data, Xiaomi's second model and first SUV, the YU7, is positioned as a mid-to-large SUV. On December 9, 2024, the Xiaomi YU7 was certified by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

The vehicle's dimensions are 4999mm in length, 1996mm in width, and 1600mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3000mm. The power system adopts a dual electric machine design with front and rear motors, the motor models are YS210XY103 and TZ220XY109, both from Suzhou Huichuan United Power Systems Co., Ltd., with powers of 220kW and 288kW, respectively, for a total power of up to 508kW, exceeding the Xiaomi SU7 Max's 0-100 km/h acceleration in 2 seconds.
