Integrating purpose-built VicOne and NXP technologies delivers edge AI processing for proactive automotive cyber defense that protects drivers, vehicles, sensitive data and manufacturers' revenues and brands

DETROIT & TOKYO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--VicOne, an automotive cybersecurity solutions leader, today announced it is working with NXP Semiconductors, the trusted partner for innovative solutions in the automotive market, to bring proactive cyber defense to vehicles through innovative services powered by artificial intelligence (AI). In integrating their complementary, purpose-built solutions, VicOne and NXP are working to introduce edge AI processing to automotive cybersecurity. The collaboration is intended to enable vehicles to effectively defend themselves as the industry moves to more AI- and software-based services.

"Today's vehicles are more exposed to cyber attacks than ever, with multiple wireless connections presenting opportunities to penetrate the vehicle network," said Jim Bridgwater, senior director of automotive edge processing with NXP. "This requires cybersecurity solutions capable of detecting novel attack forms. Our collaboration with VicOne will deliver the edge AI processing that carmakers will need to securely innovate AI-powered cockpits, while effectively mitigating the risks associated to cyberthreats."

As part of the collaboration, VicOne's xCarbon intrusion detection or prevention system (IDS/IPS) will be powered by NXP's OrangeBox Automotive Connectivity Domain Controller Platform to correlate vehicle data and security events across multiple electronic control units (ECUs) within each vehicle and amongst a wider fleet of vehicles. Scattered data will be organized into contextualized attack paths in relation to threat intelligence from real-world incidents—all via high-speed AI processing at the edge—so that suspicious behavior is detected and attacks are thwarted before harm is done.

VicOne's award-winning in-vehicle AI Guardian solution will also leverage NXP eIQ Neutron Neural Processing Unit (NPU) integrated in the i.MX 9 Applications Processor to shield AI-based applications from data leaks. NXP's automotive i.MX multi-core applications processors deliver high-performance and low-power capabilities that are scalable, safe and secure.

"We have worked with NXP for many years because the company is uniquely positioned to bring intelligent systems to the edge, and we have seen in our work with automobile manufacturers that this is a clearly emerging need in their move to more AI-based services," said Max Cheng, chief executive officer of VicOne. "With NXP, we are striving to make future vehicles that can learn, recognize threats and defend themselves by intercepting malicious prompts before they reach the AI powering SDVs (software-defined vehicles) and their smart-cockpits, IVI (in-vehicle infotainment) and other advanced services. These are going to be must-have capabilities for automakers to foster customer trust in the future, AI-powered services on which they want to differentiate their vehicles."

The world's automobiles are growing steadily more complex and vulnerable to cyberthreats in the adoption of more AI, connectivity, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and automated driving systems (ADS). Cyberattacks in the space are growing more prevalent and intricate, with the automotive-manufacturing supply chain emerging as a prime target of criminals.

Founded and singularly focused on spearheading innovation in vehicle cybersecurity, VicOne provides the most advanced and comprehensive solutions to the automotive industry and galvanizes collective expertise from the sector's broadest cast of best-of-breed partners such as NXP. Original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and suppliers trust VicOne's purpose-built solutions to stay ahead of evolving threats and safeguard vehicles, drivers and sensitive data.
