JetBlue Airways (JBLU.US) was fined $2 million by the USA Department of Transportation for frequent delays on certain flights and for creating unrealistic flight schedules.
The department stated that the flight schedules promised to customers did not reflect the actual departure and arrival times, which is an unfair and deceptive business practice where airlines mislead customers to gain more business.
The USA regulations define 'long-delayed flights' as those occurring at least 10 times a month with delays exceeding 30 minutes, accounting for more than 50% of the flight schedule.
The USA government found that between June 2022 and November 2023, JetBlue Airways operated four long-delayed flights, resulting in at least 145 delayed flights, affecting thousands of passengers.
