According to reports, NVIDIA (NVDA.US) and Qualcomm (QCOM.US) are testing Samsung Foundry's 2-nanometer chips as an alternative, mainly because they are unwilling to heavily rely on Taiwan Semiconductor, which would reduce their bargaining power and increase costs. Therefore, both companies hope to obtain some chips from Samsung.
The reports indicate that Samsung Foundry's past performance has been less than ideal, particularly when it produced 4-nanometer chips for Qualcomm, which faced overheating and performance limitations, leading to a loss of customer confidence. Since then, Samsung's 3-nanometer technology has been unable to gain the trust of top-tier clients. (vc/u)
