Apple (AAPL.US) has agreed to pay 95 million USD in cash to settle a class-action lawsuit claiming that its voice assistant Siri violates user privacy.
The preliminary settlement agreement was submitted to the federal court in Oakland, California on Tuesday night and requires approval from a U.S. district judge.
iPhone users alleged that Apple frequently records their private conversations after inadvertently activating Siri and discloses those conversations to third parties, including advertisers.
Apple denies any wrongdoing but agrees to the settlement. Reports indicate that the 95 million USD settlement costs are only equivalent to Apple's profit over 9 hours of operation.
