According to the latest data from the Mortgage Referral Research Department and the Land Registry, the number of current property mortgages in Hong Kong in December 2024 was 4,164, significantly increasing by 1,068 units (34.5%) compared to 3,096 in November, rebounding after four consecutive months of decline, reaching a four-month high. In that month, the number of new property mortgages was 321, an increase of 62 units (23.9%) compared to 259 in November, also rebounding after two months of decline. Comparing the whole year, the total number of current property mortgages last year was recorded at 0.0505 million, down 0.023406 million units (31.7%) compared to 0.073906 million in 2023, hitting an annual low since records began in 2001. The total number of new property mortgages last year was 4,186, a significant increase of 2,605 units (164.8%) compared to 1,581 in 2023, setting a new annual high in nearly three years.

In terms of current property Bank market share, BOC HONG KONG (02388) achieved three consecutive championships with a market share of 31.3%, ranking first; HSBC ranked second with a market share of 23.7%; HANG SENG BANK (00011) ranked third with a market share of 9.8%; Standard Chartered Bank ranked fourth with a market share of 7.7%; BANK OF E ASIA (00023) rose two places, ranking fifth with a market share of 3.6%.

Regarding the new property Bank market share, BOC HONG KONG regained the championship with a market share of 24.6%, ranking first; HSBC ranked second with a market share of 16.5%; Standard Chartered Bank rose three places, ranking third with a market share of 15.6%; HANG SENG BANK ranked fourth with a market share of 11.8%; ICBC ASIA ranked fifth with a market share of 7.8%.

Calculated for the whole year of 2024, the championship position for current property Bank market share was successfully secured by BOC HONG KONG with 29%, with a difference of 4.9% from HSBC, which ranked second with a market share of 24.1%, and it has consecutively won the annual current property championship for six years. The full-year new property championship was secured by HSBC with a market share of 35.9%, with a difference of 17% from BOC HONG KONG, which ranked second with a market share of 18.9%, and it has consecutively won the annual new property championship for four years.

In December 2024, the market share of current properties among the four major Banks rose from 69.1% last month to 72.5%, an increase of 3.4%.
