According to research Institutions SuperRatings, driven by a strong rebound in the Global stock market, Australia's Retirement Fund Industry, which is worth 4.1 trillion Australian Dollars (2.6 trillion USD), achieved double-digit ROI in 2024.
SuperRatings stated on Tuesday that the median return for balanced Retirement Funds held by most Australians is estimated at 11.5%, up from last year's 9.6%. The overall ROI for the vast majority of Retirement Funds is expected to exceed 10%.

Kirby Rappell, Executive Director of SuperRatings, stated: "Most of this year's returns come from the stock market, with both Australian and international stock prices at historical highs. Adjustments in the stock market will have a strong ripple effect on members' Retirement Fund balances, and members should prepare for fluctuations in the short term."
Australia's Retirement Fund Industry derives billions from employer-mandated contributions, currently equivalent to 11.5% of workers' wages. This figure is expected to rise to 12% by 2025. A report by Mercer Consulting indicates that by 2048, assets in Australia's Retirement Funds are expected to more than double, and by 2028, it is anticipated that over a dozen large Funds will each control assets exceeding 100 billion Australian Dollars.
