In the afternoon session, the Nikkei Average started trading at 39959.83 yen, down 321.33 yen from the previous business day, slightly widening the decline from the previous closing value (39979.68 yen). During lunchtime, the Nikkei 225 Futures showed some weakness as it approached the afternoon session. In the morning session, although buying came first, the market shifted to negative territory earlier than expected due to the reaction from the end of last week. Subsequently, the decline widened, continuing movement around the significant level of 40000 yen. Asian stocks showed mixed movements, while at the beginning of the afternoon session, the Nikkei Average continued to trade below the 40000 yen level.

On the Tokyo Stock Exchange Main Board's top traded stocks, Advantest <6857>, IHI <7013>, Disco <6146>, Fujikura <5803>, Kawasaki Heavy <7012>, Mitsubishi Heavy <7011>, Nissan <7201>, among others, saw declines. On the other hand, DeNA <2432>, Mitsubishi UFJ <8306>, and Nomura Micro <6254> showed increases. In terms of Global Sectors, Nonferrous Metals, Services, and Electric Appliances were among those with the highest decline rates.
