Insiders At Pilgrim's Pride Sold US$4.5m In Stock, Alluding To Potential Weakness

Simply Wall St ·  Dec 26 18:04

Over the past year, many Pilgrim's Pride Corporation (NASDAQ:PPC) insiders sold a significant stake in the company which may have piqued investors' interest. When evaluating insider transactions, knowing whether insiders are buying is usually more beneficial than knowing whether they are selling, as the latter can be open to many interpretations. However, shareholders should take a deeper look if several insiders are selling stock over a specific time period.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

Pilgrim's Pride Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

The President & CEO, Fabio Sandri, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$2.9m worth of shares at a price of US$44.50 each. That means that an insider was selling shares at slightly below the current price (US$46.30). As a general rule we consider it to be discouraging when insiders are selling below the current price, because it suggests they were happy with a lower valuation. Please do note, however, that sellers may have a variety of reasons for selling, so we don't know for sure what they think of the stock price. We note that the biggest single sale was 71% of Fabio Sandri's holding.

In the last year Pilgrim's Pride insiders didn't buy any company stock. You can see the insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year depicted in the chart below.
