Shimadzu Corporation's Chinese subsidiary, Shimadzu Instruments (Suzhou) Co., Ltd. (SSM), has constructed a fourth-phase factory in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, and held an opening ceremony on December 18. The new factory will produce a variety of analytical measuring instruments, including liquid chromatography mass spectrometers (LC-MS) and gas chromatography mass spectrometers (GC-MS). With the operation of the new factory, the building area has increased by 2.2 times compared to before, and manufacturing capacity has increased by 2.4 times.
SSM is primarily a factory for the analytical measuring instruments sold by the company in China, established in 1998 as a production base for competitively priced products. Previously, it manufactured mid-range models such as LC-MS, liquid chromatographs (LC), and ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometers (UV), but with the operation of the fourth-phase factory, as of September 2023, it has fully commenced the manufacturing of higher-end models such as LC-MS, GC-MS, gas chromatographs (GC), and energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence analyzers (EDX) in response to China's domestic production incentives. The new factory will incorporate equipment to automate the inventory management of components and the adjustment and inspection of products, as well as mechanisms to stabilize production environments such as temperature and humidity, and will also install photovoltaic technology to contribute to CO2 emission reduction.
Shimadzu Corporation has set forth "Global manufacturing expansion" in its mid-term management plan, and the establishment of this production base is part of that strategy.
