According to a report by Reuters, Google, a subsidiary of Alphabet (GOOGL.US), has received support from the European aviation industry group Airlines for Europe, which includes Air France-KLM and Lufthansa, for its proposed modifications to search results in compliance with European regulations.
Airlines for Europe sent a letter to the EU last Friday (20th), stating that in the spirit of finding a timely legal solution, the aviation industry is willing to compromise and supports the use of the same sized square boxes with a horizontal layout for both airlines and comparison websites in search results, as well as using blue to distinguish from other elements.
The EU's Digital Markets Act prohibits companies from favoring their own products and services on their platforms, or they will face fines of up to 10% of their global annual revenue. Google stated that if its competitors cannot reach an agreement on complying with the Digital Markets Act and refraining from promoting their own products, Google might revert to the old format of using 10 blue links in search results that it used years ago.
