King Wo Financial News | The CEO and President of Sands China (01928), Zheng Junuo, stated that Macau is gradually shifting its focus from Gambling to Sports and Entertainment, aiming to become a Global destination for hosting events and transforming into a "Sports Capital" and "Entertainment City." He also indicated that Macau's Gambling revenue has returned to about 80% of the 2019 level, and the number of visitors in August and October has already rebounded to pre-pandemic figures. At the beginning of December, Sands China reached an agreement with the NBA (National Basketball Association) to hold two NBA preseason games annually at the Venetian Macao for the next five years. He pointed out that the company's goal is not to host one-time events but to develop long-term collaborations to enhance the city's reputation.
Zheng Junuo noted that Sands China plans to invest $4.5 billion in Macau before 2032, with more than 90% of the funds allocated for non-Gambling-related developments, and revealed that the recently renovated Venetian Theatre is a key project. This venue will serve as a cutting-edge facility for concerts, exhibitions, conferences, and Sports events, as well as host the NBA preseason games in 2025. He emphasized that the new theatre's facilities will be state-of-the-art, suitable not only for exhibitions and conferences but also for live concerts and increasingly important Sports events.
