After the annual rate of core PCE inflation in the USA stabilized at 2.8% in November, US stocks opened lower on Friday but then rose. The Dow Jones Industrial Average once jumped 873 points, reaching a high of 43,216 points, ultimately closing up 498 points or 1.2%, at 42,840 points; the Nasdaq also rose by 385 points or 2%, but later the increase retreated, closing up 199 points or 1%, at 19,572 points. The S&P 500 Index closed up 63 points or 1.1%, at 5,930 points.
However, for the entire week, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell a cumulative 2.3%, marking a third consecutive week of declines; the S&P 500 Index and Nasdaq dropped by 2% and 1.8% respectively.
Technology stocks showed mixed performance, with NVIDIA (NVDA.US) gaining 3.1% for the day, Apple (AAPL.US) also rising nearly 2%, and Amazon (AMZN.US) increasing by less than 1%. Tesla (TSLA.US) experienced a fluctuating drop of 3.5%, and Meta (META.US) fell by 1.7%.
In addition, Goldman Sachs (GS.US), a component of the Dow, rose by 2.2%, while JPMorgan (JPM.US) also increased by 2%.
