The US stock market was mixed. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 15.37 dollars at 42,342.24 dollars, while the Nasdaq fell 19.93 points to end at 19,372.77.

After the opening, prices rose. Following the sharp drop the previous day due to the Federal Reserve's indication of a slowdown in the pace of additional interest rate cuts at the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC), a buying rebound occurred as it was seen as an overreaction. The GDP for the July-September period, released in the morning, was revised upward, and a decrease in the number of new unemployment insurance applicants indicated an expansion in economic activity, resulting in an increase in long-term interest rates which weighed on the market and led to a slowdown. As selling became dominant toward the close, the Nasdaq turned to decline. By sector, consumer services, and technology hardware and equipment rose, while property service and development saw notable declines.

Consulting company Accenture (ACN) saw a sharp rise as its quarterly earnings exceeded market expectations, and it revised upward its full-year revenue outlook. Used car seller CarMax (KMX) was also bought after reporting quarterly results that surpassed market expectations. Restaurant operator Darden Restaurants Inc (DRI) announced quarterly results that exceeded market expectations and rose. Competitors Brinker International Inc (EAT) and Texas Roadhouse Inc (TXRH) were also bought along with it.

Software development company Palantir Technologies Inc (PLTR) rose after announcing an expansion of its partnership with the U.S. Army. Semiconductors company Micron Technology Inc (MU) fell significantly after releasing second-quarter revenue forecasts that were well below market expectations. Residential construction company Lennar Corp (LEN) declined as its quarterly results did not meet market expectations.

Sporting goods manufacturer Nike (NKE) announced its quarterly results after the market closed, which exceeded market expectations, and it is rising in extended hours trading.
