According to Zhijun Finance APP, Riot Platforms (RIOT.US) announced on Friday that the company has significantly increased its Bitcoin Hold Positions recently. This news follows MicroStrategy's large-scale purchase of Bitcoin and further indicates the continued high enthusiasm in the Cryptos market.
Between December 10 and 12, Riot purchased 5,117 Bitcoins for a total price of approximately $0.51 billion, averaging about $99,669 per Bitcoin. This raises Riot's total Bitcoin Hold Positions to 16,728 coins. The company disclosed this information in its latest 8-K filing submitted to the SEC.
As a result of this news, Riot's stock price rose 9.7% on Friday, closing at $13.53, marking the highest closing price since November 12. Over the past two days, the stock has risen by a total of 10%.
Before Riot's announcement, MicroStrategy (MSTR.US) also revealed that it spent about $2.1 billion to purchase 21,550 Bitcoins between December 2 and 8, with an average price of $98,783 per coin. Currently, MicroStrategy's total Bitcoin Hold Positions have reached 423,650 coins.
As a software company known for business intelligence and Cloud Computing services, MicroStrategy began to venture into the Cryptos space in 2020. The company's Executive Director Chairman, Michael Saylor, views Bitcoin as a tool against inflation, describing it as "a reliable means of value storage" and "an investment asset with greater long-term appreciation potential than holding Cash / Money Market."
Unlike MicroStrategy, Riot is a company focused on Bitcoin mining, owning and Operating the largest Bitcoin mining facility in North America. Currently, Riot is one of the highest market value companies in the Cryptos mining sector, with a total market value of approximately $4.1 billion.
This Monday, the price of Bitcoin first surpasses the $100,000 mark, rising by 4.7% and closing at $101,028. On Friday, the price of Bitcoin continues to rise, reaching $101,169. This is the second time in Bitcoin's history that it has crossed six figures.
