On December 12, Musk announced that SpaceX's headquarters officially relocated to the "Starbase" launch site in South Texas, with plans to develop the area into a brand new city. SpaceX has submitted an application to local officials for an election to register "Starbase" as a city, and local residents have also submitted a supporting petition. Relevant authorities will review the legality of the plan before deciding on the next steps.
According to reports from the Associated Press and the Beast Daily on December 12 Eastern Time, Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced that the headquarters of his space exploration technology company, SpaceX, has officially moved to the Starbase launch site in Texas, USA, and revealed plans to develop this area into a brand new city.
Musk posted on Social Media platform X, saying: "SpaceX headquarters will now officially move to Starbase City in Texas!"
Public information shows that Starbase is located in Cameron County in southern Texas, originally serving as the launch site for SpaceX to build and launch the heavy Launch Vehicle, Starship. As early as 2021, Musk proposed the idea of developing Starbase into a city. This relocation of the headquarters is evidently another step he is taking to achieve this goal.
The Associated Press reported that on the 12th, SpaceX submitted an application to Cameron County officials to hold an election to officially register Starbase as a city. Meanwhile, some residents of the area have also submitted petitions in support of this plan. A judge in Cameron County stated on the same day that relevant authorities will review the petitions to confirm whether they meet all legal requirements before deciding on the next steps.
The SpaceX headquarters was previously located in California and has become a representative enterprise in the commercial aerospace field since it was founded by Musk in 2002.
