Last year, Amazon (AMZN.US) signed an agreement with Microsoft (MSFT.US) to provide cloud-based Microsoft 365 Office tools for employees. However, after Microsoft discovered that a hacker group had gained access to employees' email accounts, Amazon has suspended the rollout of the service to employees for a year. Amazon's Chief Information Security Officer CJ Moses stated that he believes next year is the right time to begin redeployment.
Amazon employees' Microsoft 365 is a cloud software that includes Word, Outlook, Windows, and other applications. Amazon has long used a version of Office installed on its own servers. The two companies are working to address Amazon's concerns about the security of the email and productivity software bundle.
Amazon has committed to spending $1 billion over five years to purchase Microsoft 365 software for its approximately 1.5 million employees.
