As of the close on the 12th, the number of rising and falling stocks in the Nikkei average was 174 stocks up, 48 stocks down, and 3 stocks unchanged.
On the 11th, the US stock market was mixed. The Dow average closed at 44,148.56, down 99.27 dollars, while the Nasdaq closed up 347.65 points at 20,034.89. With the November Consumer Price Index (CPI) staying within expectations, buying was anticipated for additional interest rate cuts at the December Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC), leading to an early rise. The Dow turned to decline due to profit-taking. The Nasdaq, driven by buying expectations and investments in high-tech companies like Alphabet, expanded its gains toward the end and set a new all-time high. It ended mixed.
In response to a significant rise in the Nasdaq, the Tokyo market started with a buying advantage. The Nikkei average, bolstered by strong buying in high-tech stocks, saw a moment where it reached the 40,000 yen level for the first time in about two months since October 15 during trading hours. With the special settlement price (SQ value) calculation for December futures and Single Options coming up tomorrow, speculative trading was also observed in the futures market. After a round of buying, the Nikkei average became slightly heavier in its upward movement but remained in a range around the 39,900 yen level.
The closing Nikkei average increased by 476.91 yen (+1.21%) to 39,849.14 yen compared to the previous day. The trading volume on the Tokyo Main Board was 1.9 billion, with 32.45 million shares traded. The trading value was 4 trillion 408.9 billion yen. By Global Sectors, the sectors of Petroleum, Coal, Service, Electric Appliances, and Rubber Products rose, while only the Iron & Steel and Metal Products sectors declined. The number of rising stocks on the Tokyo Main Board was 64%, while the number of falling stocks was 32%.
