In comparison to the Tokyo Stock Exchange (based on an exchange rate of 151.24 yen per dollar), Japanese stocks of american depositary receipt, such as toyota industries corporation <6201>, honda motor co., ltd. <7267>, toyota motor <7203>, tokio marine hd <8766>, and komatsu <6301> saw an increase, while japan post <6178>, japan post bank <7182>, nippon denki san <6594>, smc <6273>, and sumitomo mitsui financial group <8316> experienced a decline, leading to an overall slight buying bias. The Chicago Nikkei 225 futures settlement price was 39,320 yen, up 110 yen from the Osaka daytime comparison.
The US stock market declined. The Dow Jones average fell by 240.59 dollars to 44,401.93 dollars, and the Nasdaq ended trading down 123.08 points at 19,736.69. After fluctuating near the all-time high, it showed mixed results after the opening. Initially, the Dow was buoyed by expectations of an additional interest rate cut from the Federal Reserve and China's economic support plan, but later turned downward due to selling spurred by geopolitical risks following the collapse of the Assad regime in Syria. The Nasdaq also fell under the weight of profit-taking and the decline of semiconductors company nvidia (NVDA), which pulled the index lower. The market expanded its losses towards the end and concluded negatively.
On the 9th in the New York foreign exchange market, the dollar-yen exchange rate rose from 150.70 yen to 151.35 yen, closing at 151.23 yen. Risk appetite led to dominant selling of yen due to anticipation of China's economic stimulus measures, while the upcoming government bond auction this week strengthened dollar buying alongside rising US long-term interest rates. The euro rose to 1.0594 dollars before retreating to 1.0546 dollars, closing at 1.0551 dollars. The euro faced downward pressure from selling as the European Central Bank (ECB) is expected to implement a rate cut at its regular meeting this week.
NY crude oil futures for January rebounded (NYMEX crude oil January settlement price: 68.37 ↑1.17).
