As of the closing price 9 days ago, the Nikkei average constituent stocks had 142 stocks rising, 80 stocks falling, and 3 stocks unchanged.
The Nikkei average rebounded. It closed the morning session at 39,197.57 yen, up 106.40 yen (+0.27%) with an estimated trading volume of 0.8 billion 97.37 million shares. Last week, the Dow Jones Industrial Average in the U.S. market closed at 44,642.52, down 123.19 points, and the Nasdaq closed at 19,859.77, up 159.05 points. Expectations for additional interest rate cuts at the December Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting rose after the employment statistics, leading to an increase after the opening bell. However, as several Federal Reserve Board (FRB) officials showed a cautious attitude towards rate cuts, expectations of a slowdown in the pace of rate cuts strengthened, causing the market to struggle. Although the Dow traded weakly throughout the day, the Nasdaq, supported by early rate cut expectations, traded strongly throughout the day, hitting record highs for several consecutive days. Keeping an eye on the U.S. stock market, the Nikkei started the day up 241.38 yen from the previous week at 39,332.55 yen. Buying dominated the Chicago futures from the start, but after an initial round of buying, profit-taking sales led to a temporary fall into negative territory. However, later buying emerged, pushing the index back into positive territory. Given the focus on semiconductor-related stocks the previous week, there was an awareness of the potential overheating in semiconductor-related stocks today, making it easier for selling to occur.
