Uber (UBER.US) and china self-driving car developer WeRide (WRD.US) announced their collaboration on Friday to provide self-driving automobile mobility services in Abu Dhabi.
In a press release, Uber stated that initially, each WeRide robot taxi used through the Uber app will be equipped with a real driver to ensure safety and reliability for passengers and pedestrians. Their goal is to offer fully self-driving business services in Abu Dhabi later in 2025.
The robot taxis will begin running on routes between Saadiyat Island and Yas Island, as well as to and from Zayed International Airport.
According to WeRide's website, the company holds licenses for testing or operating self-driving automobiles in Dubai, china, Singapore, and the usa.
