The leader of retail investors in the USA, "Roaring Kitty", has posted again!
Roaring Kitty released an image adapted from the cover of Time magazine, which features a blank computer screen with a media player similar to YouTube on it. This image appears to be a modified version of the December 25, 2006, Time magazine cover, when "You" (meaning the usa public) was named "Person of the Year."
Since the post did not provide any explanatory text, day traders made bold guesses. For example, $Unity Software (U.US)$ (Stock code 'U') saw its stock price rise by up to 8.2% during intraday trading; the operator of airport security screening systems. $Clear Secure (YOU.US)$ quickly reversed an earlier decline of 4.6%. Ultimately, Unity closed up 4.9%, while Clear Secure fell by 1.1%.
As one of the iconic MEME stocks, $GameStop (GME.US)$The stock price soared by 14% at one point, then gave back most of the gains, ending with a 5.9% increase. Another popular stock from the same period $AMC Entertainment (AMC.US)$ also saw a similar trend, closing up 5.9%.
This is the first time Jill has posted X since September. His last post was an image of a dog inserted into a scene from the "Toy Story" movie, which also led to a brief increase in meme stocks.
The latest post triggered active trading in the options market, with investors heavily buying call options for unity software, driving its trading volume to the highest level since September 24, and the skew of one-month call options doubled.
Meanwhile, Bloomberg data shows that a trader executed a complex multi-leg options trade on Clear Secure on Wednesday - buying a 30/40 dollar call spread option (expiring in May), and financed it by selling put options with a strike price of 20 dollars of the same expiration. This transaction was more like a hedge rather than a directional bet, but it pushed the trading volume of call options and open interest for the stock to historical highs.
