daikin industries, ltd. unsponsored adr has been selected for the "asia ip elite 2024" conducted by the international intellectual property (IP) related media "Intellectual Asset Management (IAM)". This marks daikin's second award following last year.
The "Asia IP Elite" evaluates outstanding companies in the Asia-Pacific region from the perspective of intellectual property strategy. Among companies with dedicated departments for intellectual property, it selects those that are actively involved in the utilization of intellectual property and the handling of intellectual property disputes, and that implement innovative approaches to create value from intellectual property. In 2024, 93 companies and organizations from the Asia-Pacific region (25 from japan) were selected, and the award ceremony took place on November 20 (Wednesday).
Daikin recognizes the use of some of its patented technologies by other companies to contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions across the industry. In December 2019, it participated in "WIPO GREEN*" operated by the UN's intellectual property agency, registering a total of 419 patents related to air conditioning systems using the low-global-warming potential coolant R32. By widely promoting air conditioning systems using R32 globally through WIPO GREEN, which is a mechanism to promote the sharing and mutual utilization of sustainable technologies, it is reducing the environmental impact of coolants worldwide.
Moreover, in co-creation with startups and industry-academia partnerships, efforts are being made to create mechanisms that provide both parties with incentives for invention generation, also focusing on the creation of new intellectual property. As a result, good co-creative relationships have been built with multiple universities and research institutions, and the number of patent applications based on active technology development through external co-creation has significantly increased both domestically and abroad.
Daikin is working to strengthen research and development on a global scale to realize the growth strategy themes set forth in its strategic management plan "FUSION25," such as "Challenge for Carbon Neutrality," "Promotion of Solution Business Connected with Customers," and "Creation of Air Value." In the future, in addition to acquiring intellectual property rights and avoiding infringement of others' intellectual property, efforts will also be focused on creating intellectual property through industry-industry and industry-academia co-creation, as well as fostering partnerships through the free opening of patents, in order to promote intellectual property activities that contribute to business.
