At the time of the closing on the 4th, the number of rising stocks in the Nikkei average constituent stocks was 56, the number of falling stocks was 166, and the number of unchanged stocks was 3.
The U.S. stock market on the third showed mixed results. The Dow average closed down $76.47 at $44,705.53, while the Nasdaq rose 76.96 points to close at 19,480.91. Adjustments continued ahead of the scheduled employment statistics announcement this week, resulting in a mixed opening. Although selling to close positions continued, keeping the Dow soft throughout the day, optimism about the economy strengthened after the JOLTS job openings reaffirmed the labor market's resilience, leading to a stabilization in the market and a reduction in the decline toward the end. The Nasdaq saw buying in mobile device companies such as Apple and online retailers like Amazon, which pushed the index higher and expanded its gains to set a new record for consecutive days. The market ended mixed.
While US stocks were mixed, following the rising trend of technology stocks, the Tokyo market started trading in a buying-dominant position. The Nikkei average rose after the opening, but due to concerns over the situation in South Korea, it gradually lost momentum near yesterday's high of 39,427.37 yen, narrowing the gains and moving into negative territory compared to the previous day. However, large cap stocks such as Mitsubishi Heavy Industries <7011> and IHI <7013> continued to be strong, avoiding falling below 39,000 yen, and the market turned around in the afternoon session to end the trading day.
At the closing of the Nikkei average, it ended 27.53 yen higher (+0.07%) at 39,276.39 yen. The trading volume on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Prime Market was 1.897 million shares. The transaction value was 4.2927 trillion yen. By industry sector, retail, other products, oil and coal products, mining, and warehouse and transportation related sectors rose, while banks, electricity and gas, metal products, land transportation, and construction declined. The number of rising stocks on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Prime Market was 19%, while the number of falling stocks was 77%.
