In the Japanese stock market of American Depositary Receipt (ADR), Denso <6902>, Hoya <7741>, Tokio Marine <8766>, Fast Retailing <9983>, Disco <6146>, etc., rose compared to the Tokyo Stock Exchange rate of 149.66 yen per dollar, while Japan Post <6178>, Japan Post Bank <7182>, Seven & I Holdings <3382>, Toyota Motor <7203>, Sumitomo Mitsui FG <8316>, etc., fell, with mixed performance overall. The U.S. stock market closed with mixed results. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 76.47 points lower at 44,705.53, while the Nasdaq ended trading at 19,480.91, up 76.96 points. Ahead of the upcoming release of employment statistics this week, adjustments continued, leading to a mixed market after the opening. Despite sustained selling pressure leading to a soft trend throughout the day, the Dow showed optimism towards the economy as the JOLT job openings reaffirmed the strength of the labor market, leading to a shrink in losses towards the end. The Nasdaq saw gains from companies like Apple (AAPL) and Amazon (AMZN), pushing the index higher and hitting record highs consecutively. The market closed with mixed performance.
In the New York foreign exchange market on the 3rd, the dollar-yen fell from 149.68 yen to 148.65 yen and closed at 149.52 yen. South Korean President declared a state of emergency, leading to increased buying of the yen against the South Korean Won and risk aversion. Subsequently, as the South Korean National Assembly passed a resolution demanding the lifting of the state of emergency declared by the president, the yen buying slowed down. With the U.S. October JOLT job openings exceeding expectations, long-term interest rates rose and the selling of the dollar also receded. The Euro-dollar fell to 1.0492 dollars, then rose to 1.0535 dollars, closing at 1.0508 dollars. Concerns ahead of a vote of no confidence in the French cabinet led to dominant Euro selling pressure.
NYMEX crude oil futures for January rose significantly (NYMEX crude oil January contract closing price: $69.94, up $1.84).
