'We Are Not Considering Elden Ring 2,' Says FromSoftware's Miyazaki

FromSoftware's award-winning Elden Ring is a franchise fans won't need to say goodbye to just yet, but don't expect a direct sequel.

In a recent interview with Japanese outlet Game Watch, Hidetaka Miyazaki, the studio's acclaimed creator, confirmed that Elden Ring 2 is not part of the company's plans.

Speaking after Elden Ring DLC Shadow of the Erdtree earned top honors at this year's PlayStation Awards, Miyazaki clarified the studio's direction.

"At this point, we are not considering developments such as "Elden Ring 2", he said. "However, this does not mean that we are denying the development of the IP 'Elden Ring'."

He added: "As for 'what will we do then?', FromSoftware is running multiple projects as usual. Among them, there are various variations of projects, so I hope you will look forward to them."

Speculation: What's Next For FromSoftware?

Beyond Elden Ring, FromSoftware appears to be juggling a slate of unannounced projects. Earlier this year, now-deleted job listings sparked speculation of a potential new Armored Core installment, with mentions of robot characters fueling the theory. Given the studio's legacy in mecha-themed titles, such a pivot would align with its history of alternating between genres.

Moreover, the studio's parent company Kadokawa has acknowledged acquisition interest from Sony Group Corp. (NYSE:SONY).
