Spin out BLUABLE, which provides a one-stop service from seaweed bed development to blue carbon measurement and application

We are the first business created through the new business creation program “Fujitsu Innovation Circuit” (hereafter, FIC) to spin out BLUABLE Co., Ltd. (BLUABLE). BLUABLE established a company in 2024/10 as a secondment startup (Note 1), and is promoting businesses from seaweed bed development to blue carbon (Note 2) measurement and application.

Interest was received from the Secondment Entrepreneurship Spin-Out Capital No. 1 Investment Business Limited Partnership, which is a venture capital fund for secondment entrepreneurs and spin-out entrepreneurs, in the research and development and business details that have been promoted by FIC until now, and external funding was raised from the same fund in 2024/11. The funds raised this time will be used for product and service development and PMF (Note 3) verification.

Going forward, we aim to solve marine environmental issues by cooperating with BLUABLE through the provision of our marine digital twin technology (Note 4), etc. Furthermore, we will continue to produce human resources and companies that take on the challenge of solving social issues through FIC and contribute to the realization of a sustainable society.

  In recent years, blue carbon efforts aimed at achieving carbon neutrality have attracted attention, but the sea-burning phenomenon, where seaweed beds, which are the basis for blue carbon creation, disappear due to rising seawater temperatures due to the effects of global warming, has become serious. BLUABLE promotes carbon neutrality and contributes to a sustainable marine environment, starting with water purification and maintaining biodiversity, so we provide a one-stop service from seaweed bed development to blue carbon measurement and application.
  The seaweed bed development kit provided by BLUABLE makes it possible to create seaweed beds simply by dropping a substrate where seaweed is likely to grow into the sea, and since there is no need to use heavy equipment for installation, it is possible to achieve inexpensive introduction in a short period of time compared to currently commonly used seaweed bed development methods. In addition to this, blue carbon created from seaweed beds created by BLUABLE will be measured, and applications for “J Blue Credit” (Note 5) will also be carried out. Currently, we are conducting demonstration tests on seaweed bed development at 16 locations nationwide from Hokkaido to Kyushu.
  In the future, we plan to demonstrate more accurate measurement of blue carbon using IoT and AI technology. We are also planning to consider applying for “J Blue Credit” for seaweed farming businesses.

  About the Fujitsu Innovation Circuit, a new business creation program

  FIC is a program aimed at developing human resources with an entrepreneurial mindset and skills and creating new businesses, which began in November 2021 as one of the activities of our company-wide DX project “Fujitsu Transformation (Fujitsu Transformation).” FIC consists of two programs: the entrepreneurship (Note 6) human resource development program “Ignition” and the new business proposal/creation program “Challenge,” and more than 2,500 employees of the Group from Japan and overseas participate.
