CLP Power - SS(02638.HK) won the highest level of gold award in the '2023 Hong Kong Environmental Excellence Awards' in the 'Public and Community Services' category. The award is jointly organized by the Environmental Campaign Committee, the Environmental Protection Department, and 9 other institutions.
CLP director and general manager, Tse Cho Ying, shared innovative eco-friendly projects of CLP, including the 'Sonic Deterrent' system developed at Lamma Power Station. The system, installed at the cooling water inlet of the power plant, prevents small fish and other marine life from mistakenly entering the cooling water system by playing low-frequency sounds of whales. Since the 'Sonic Deterrent' system was implemented, the amount of mistakenly entered fish, which used to be around 0.06 million kilograms per month at the peak in 2019 and before, has significantly reduced to only about 25 kilograms per month currently, a reduction of over 99.5%. This not only ensures the reliable operation and stability of the power plant's cooling water system but also protects marine ecology and fishery resources.
In addition, CLP has introduced the 'Mobile Eco-friendly Power Twin Pack' to cope with sudden electrical emergencies and to provide a more stable and cleaner backup power supply during large events. This system is powered by energy storage batteries. Compared to traditional mobile diesel generators, it can greatly reduce roadside air pollutants and noise emissions, as well as decrease carbon emissions by approximately 30-40%.
