Meta (META.US), the parent company of Facebook, is accused by over 80 media companies in Spain of unfair competition in advertising and will face a court trial in Spain in December 2025.
The 15th Commercial Court in Madrid stated that the hearings will be held from October 1 to 2.
The AMI Media Association, representing 87 Spanish media companies, filed a lawsuit last year, accusing Meta of violating EU data protection regulations from 2018 to 2023. The association claimed that Meta systematically and extensively used the personal data of users on Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, giving it an unfair advantage in designing and delivering personalized advertisements, thus constituting unfair competition.
