Cui Dongshu, the secretary-general of the China passenger vehicle market information joint meeting, stated through his personal WeChat public account that in October 2024, the import volume of imported vehicles in the mainland was 0.044 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 45% and a month-on-month decrease of 21%, creating a recently rare substantial decline.
Cui Dongshu pointed out that since 2017, the imported vehicle market has continued to shrink, decreasing from 1.24 million units to 0.8 million units this year. In the first ten months of this year, the cumulative import volume was 0.58 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 9%. This trend is closely related to the rise of domestic automobile brands and the acceleration of international brands in local production in the mainland. Additionally, as mainland consumers' preferences for domestically manufactured and joint venture brand models have strengthened in recent years, the mainland automobile import market has remained sluggish, experiencing negative growth for three consecutive years.
