Toyota Motor's data released on Thursday showed that global production in October declined for the ninth consecutive month, dragged down by significant declines in production in the USA and China, but the decline was milder compared to the previous months.
The company stated that global production in October was 893,164 vehicles, a year-on-year decrease of 0.8%, but slower than the 8% decline in September.
Toyota announced that global sales in October increased by 1.4% year-on-year, reaching 903,103 vehicles, marking the first growth in five months and setting a record for the highest monthly total in history.
Due to safety airbag issues, production of the SUV models Grand Highlander and Lexus TX was halted for four months, leading to a 13% decrease in Toyota's production in the USA. Production of these models resumed on October 21, and production at the Indiana factory is expected to return to normal in January next year.
In China, competition with local brands remains fierce, with production in October dropping by 9%. Due to weak demand, Toyota's automobile production in Thailand also decreased by 13%.
In Japan, which accounts for about one-third of Toyota's global production, production in October increased by 8%, rebounding from soft data a year ago.
In Canada and Mexico, Toyota's production in October increased by 2%.
The production and sales data above include the luxury brand Lexus under the Toyota Motor, but do not include the sales of Hino and Daihatsu under the Toyota Group.
