Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd.
On November 28, the LNG-powered car carrier 'PONTUS HIGHWAY' under construction at China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Jiangsu) Co., Ltd. was completed and delivered to Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. ('the Company').
This vessel is a sister ship of 'NEREUS HIGHWAY', which was completed in August. Compared to conventional heavy fuel oil, LNG fuel is expected to reduce the emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2), one of the greenhouse gases (GHG), by 25% to 30%, nearly 100% of sulfur oxides (SOx), the cause of air pollution, and approximately 75% of nitrogen oxides (NOx), and is compliant with IMO's NOx Tier III regulations. The vessel is equipped with the latest dual-fuel electronic control engine '7X62DF-2.1 iCER' by WinGD, which reduces methane emissions when using LNG fuel.
Our long-term environmental vision 'K' LINE Environmental Vision 2050 – Connecting the Blue Sea to Tomorrow (Note 1)' sets a goal surpassing the 2030 target set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) of a 40% improvement in CO2 emission efficiency from 2008, aiming for a '50%' improvement and challenging to achieve net zero GHG emissions by 2050. The Company will continue to promote its own decarbonization efforts and support societal decarbonization.
