Co-working space 'Point 0 Marunouchi' operated by Point 0 Co., Ltd., in which Daikin Industries, Ltd. unsponsored ADR invests, became the first co-working office in Japan to achieve the highest Platinum rank in the 'WELL Building StandardTM v2' (hereinafter WELL Certification) in October 2024.
The WELL Certification is an evaluation system for office spaces that aims to create a better living environment by adding the perspective of 'human health' to the design, construction, and operation of spaces. Certification involves evaluating the following categories: 'Air', 'Water', 'Food', 'Light', 'Exercise', 'Thermal Environment', 'Sound', 'Materials', 'Mind', 'Community', with the addition of an 'Innovation' category. The evaluation assigns one of the ranks: Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze.
'Point 0 Marunouchi' obtained the Gold rank of WELL Certification in 2020 and in the current reassessment, achieved full marks in the 'Mind' and 'Community' categories. Additionally, in the 'WELL Innovations' section of the 'Innovation' category, 6 initiatives, including 3 initiatives by Daikin, received additional evaluations. These 6 evaluations in the 'WELL Innovations' section mark the highest number in Japan to date, thanks to the collaborative efforts across industries and domains that led to the acquisition of the Platinum rank.
'Point 0 Marunouchi', established in July 2019 as a space dedicated to pursuing new value creation for future office environments, has seen contributions from 17 companies, including ours, engaging in various wellness-related experiments. These initiatives are also considered in the evaluation for WELL Certification. The initiatives evaluated as additional points for innovation proposals include efforts to enhance air value through approaches such as promoting health using low-oxygen environments, emotional expressions based on weather using AI-generated emotions, and reducing risks of infectious diseases and allergy development.
Daikin has formulated the strategic management plan 'FUSION25' aiming to expand its business while contributing to the resolution of environmental and social issues, and pursuing continued growth and development. One of the themes of our growth strategy in 'FUSION25' is 'Creating Air Value'. We will continue to work on various verifications to further create value around air.
Three initiatives by Daikin that were subject to additional points in WELL Platinum certification evaluation
Promotion of health and communication among office users through the introduction of a low-oxygen fitness room
Using Daikin's 'Low Oxygen System OXORA', they have created a 'Low-Oxygen Fitness Room' in the office where the oxygen concentration is lowered to approximately 15% (equivalent to an altitude of 2500m), aiming to improve the health of office users through training there. In a low-oxygen environment, even simple exercise while doing short workouts or work can lead to health benefits such as increased muscle strength, endurance improvement, beauty, weight loss, and improved sleep quality. In the future, they plan to utilize low-oxygen spaces as desks or for web conferences, and also verify the potential for health promotion in regular business operations.
Enhancing communication among office users and strengthening relationships with the surrounding area through the use of image-generating AI
Generating emotional landscape paintings using AI based on daily changing information such as seasons, weather around the office, news of the day, and displaying them on indoor monitors. By selecting news related to companies using 'point 0 Marunouchi' automatically and incorporating advanced ideas such as using various painting styles, they aim to provide topics to engage the interest of office users and enhance communication. Through activating communication among office users and fostering attachment to the region, this is an initiative to make coworking spaces more effectively and comfortably utilized.
This technology was jointly developed by Daikin and Osaka University, and in the future, they will explore the possibility of using it outside office spaces as well.
Visualizing and reducing the risks of infectious diseases and allergic reactions in meeting rooms.
In all meeting rooms in the office, Daikin's 'UV Humidifying Streamer Air Purifier' is installed to capture allergens such as viruses and pollen in the air, and the dust collected on the air purifier's dust filter is taken to Osaka University for analysis to identify the amount and types of viruses and bacteria floating in the meeting room. Depending on the analysis results of the dust, efforts are made to enhance the safety and peace of mind of office users by moving or installing air purifiers in necessary locations.
