xAI's annual revenue is expected to exceed 0.1 billion USD, and it may release the standalone application of its chatbot Grok as early as next month.
According to reports, xAI, the generative ai startup founded by Elon Musk, is expected to see annual revenue exceeding 0.1 billion USD, and it may release the standalone application of its chatbot Grok as early as next month.
Sources reveal that the majority of xAI's revenue comes from Musk's other companies, as Grok is only available for users of the X social network and has been utilized for customer service functions for SpaceX's Starlink internet service. Sources also mentioned that xAI may be utilized for X's search engine.
The standalone Grok chatbot can compete with other similar bots, such as OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google's (GOOG.US, GOOGL.US) Gemini, which was released on iOS earlier this month. Musk co-founded OpenAI in December 2015 with others but later left the company and sued OpenAI and other companies like microsoft (MSFT.US).
In October, xAI released its first application programming interface (API). Currently, the xAI API consists of only one model, called 'grok-beta'. The pricing for this model is 5 million USD per million input tokens or 15 million USD per million output tokens. It is currently unclear whether these models are Grok-2 or Grok-2 mini.
Earlier this month, xAI secured new funding of 6 billion USD, bringing the company valuation to 50 billion USD. Musk stated on the x platform that part of the new funds will be used for a large datacenter for xAI in Memphis, which will utilize 0.1 million nvidia (NVDA.US) H100 GPUs. The construction process for the center took 122 days.
In July of this year, Musk indicated that he would present the idea of Tesla investing 5 billion USD into xAI to the board of directors of the electric vehicle manufacturer, after this proposal received nearly two-thirds approval in an online vote.
