IDC released a report stating that global smart phone sales have experienced a strong rebound this year, ending two consecutive years of decline, with shipments growing by 6.2% to approximately 1.24 billion units. However, the shipment volume of apple (AAPL.US) iPhones only grew by 0.4%. Nonetheless, the average selling price of an iPhone exceeds $1,000, while the average price of an Android phone is about $295.
IDC indicated that this year's growth primarily comes from pent-up demand and regions with low smart phone penetration rates. However, overall global shipments have not yet returned to pre-pandemic levels, and future growth is expected to remain below low single digits for the next few years, affected by extended mobile upgrade cycles, market saturation in developed economies, and rapid growth in second-hand smart phone trade.
