The facility is now 80% complete.

Keppel has completed the installation of a gas turbine at the Keppel Sakra Cogen Plant, Singapore's first hydrogen-compatible cogeneration power plant.

In a statement, the company said the turbine will improve the efficiency of the 600-megawatt (MW) combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant. The facility will also be able to produce steam for use in industrial processes for energy and chemicals customers on Jurong Island.

The CCGT plant is currently 80% complete and is on track to commence operations in the first half of 2026. When completed, the Keppel Sakra Cogen Plant will generate significantly less carbon than that of Singapore's average operating efficiency for the equivalent power generated using natural gas, abating over 6 million tonnes of emissions over its useful life.

"Once operational, the plant will expand Keppel's generation capacity by nearly 50% to 1,900 MW, enabling Keppel to play a larger role in meeting Singapore's growing energy demand," said Cindy Lim, CEO of Keppel's Infrastructure Division.

Keppel is also looking into other low carbon solutions and is one of two consortia shortlisted to commence pre-Front End Engineering and Design work to develop proposals to provide end-to-end low- or zero-carbon ammonia solutions for power generation and bunkering on Jurong Island.
