According to the Macau Daily, the Macau government expects next year's gross gambling revenue to be 240 billion patacas (hereinafter the same), and admits that this is a more conservative estimate. Some scholars in Macau believe that this estimate is reasonable, and under comprehensive circumstances, next year's gambling revenue may be between 240 billion and 250 billion patacas. It is believed that Macau can still boost visitor numbers through hardware facilities, entertainment activities, and other aspects to drive an increase in gambling revenue.
The director of the Gambling Research Institute of the University of Macau, Feng Jia Chao, stated that by dividing the gambling revenue for 2023 and 2024 by the number of visitors to Macau each year, some trends can be observed. Last year's gambling revenue was 183.6 billion patacas, and when divided by 28.23 million visitors in the same year, disregarding whether the tourists participated in gambling activities, the direct calculation results in about 6,500 patacas; this year's gambling revenue is expected to exceed that of 2023, but because the year is not yet complete, it is estimated to be around 6,600 patacas, indicating that each visitor's expenditure contribution in Macau over the past two years is approximately between 6,500 and 6,600 patacas.
Feng Jia Chao remarked that although the Macau government has estimated next year's gambling revenue at 240 billion patacas, which is relatively conservative, future gambling revenue will still be linked to the number of visitors. Therefore, next year's gambling revenue is expected to be between 240 and 250 billion patacas. Feng Jia Chao specifically mentioned that the path Macau needs to take in the future is to develop non-gambling elements, such as boosting visitor numbers through hosting concerts to drive gambling revenue.
