A spokesperson for walmart stated on Monday that the company plans to cut some of its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs, becoming one of the growing number of companies feeling pressure from conservative groups.
According to a report, a spokesperson for walmart (WMT.US) stated on Monday that the company plans to cut some of its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs, becoming one of the growing number of companies feeling pressure from conservative groups.
It has been reported that walmart will no longer consider race and gender to promote diversity when awarding contracts to suppliers, and will not assess financing eligibility based on certain demographic data provided by suppliers.
The report added that the retailer will reduce racial equality training, stop participating in rankings by LGBTQ advocacy organizations, and review its support for pride day and other events.
A spokesperson for walmart stated: "We are willing to make changes together with employees and customers representing all of the usa."
It is understood that this move has pushed the world's largest retailer to join companies like starbucks (SBUX.US), jpmorgan (JPM.US), and ford (F.US), which modified their DEI policies last year under pressure from conservatives.
Walmart's action comes after conservative activist Robby Starbuck posted on X, who disclosed the changes in walmart's DEI policy prior to this report.
Starbuck indicated that he had written to walmart last week, hoping to "write a story about awakening" there, but ultimately had productive negotiations with the retailer regarding DEI.
Starbuck has reviewed and consulted on the company's hiring policies.
According to reports in September, companies like Ford, lowe's companies (LOW.US), harley-davidson (HOG.US), tractor manufacturer deere (DE.US), and beer producer Molson Coors (TAP.US) indicated that after becoming targets of Starbuck, they would terminate some diversity policies.
