CelcomDigi ·  Nov 20 13:00

PETALING JAYA, 20 NOVEMBER 2024 – CelcomDigi Berhad (CelcomDigi) is the first company in Malaysia to be awarded the prestigious ISO 45003: Psychological Health and Safety at Work certification, a global standard guideline focused on managing psychological health and safety risks in the workplace. This milestone underscores CelcomDigi's dedication to cultivate a workplace where employees feel supported, valued, and equipped to thrive personally and professionally.

Prior to this achievement, the company had already attained the ISO 45001 certification for Occupational Health and Safety Management. Having both certifications reflect the company's holistic approach in caring for its employees' wellbeing, with equal emphasis on psychological and physical safety. CelcomDigi's adoption of this standard also reflects its ambition to raise the safety bar across its value chain, underpinned by the belief that fostering a safer, healthier workplace is a shared responsibility, extending safety practices to include partners within its operating ecosystem.

CelcomDigi's Chief Human Resource Officer, Azmi Ujang said, "We are taking a holistic and inclusive approach to wellbeing, as we work towards building a progressive, dynamic, and performance-driven organisation. We believe that cultivating a healthy and safe work environment—both physically and mentally—is crucial to our employees feeling supported to show up fully at work and key to unlocking their full potential. This is vital to fostering growth for the company, and enabling us to contribute purposefully to our aspiration to drive Malaysia's digital transformation journey."

National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Malaysia's Executive Director, Hj. Ayop bin Salleh said, "This certification is a remarkable testament to CelcomDigi Berhad's dedication to fostering a workplace that prioritises psychological health and safety. By becoming the first organisation in Malaysia to achieve the globally recognised ISO 45003:2021 certification, awarded on 14 October 2024 by NIOSHCert, CelcomDigi has set a benchmark for the corporate sector. This achievement reflects its steadfast leadership in safeguarding mental wellbeing, implementing robust management practices, and continuously improving processes to create a supportive and productive work environment.

"Furthermore, CelcomDigi's alignment with ISO 45003 directly contributes to seven of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals, reinforcing its role as a responsible and forward-thinking organisation. At NIOSHCert, we are proud to have supported CelcomDigi in this transformative journey, which not only strengthens the organisation but also positively impacts society and the industry as a whole. We look forward to witnessing the continued success and sustainability of CelcomDigi's commitment to excellence."

Building a Resilient and Supportive Workplace Culture

CelcomDigi's ISO 45003 accreditation reflects the company's deeply embedded safety culture, rooted in proactive care, continuous improvement, and industry-leading standards. By integrating ISO 45003 with ISO 45001, CelcomDigi has established a robust framework that tackles a comprehensive range of workplace risks, ensuring that safety is ingrained at every level of the organisation.

Health and safety is a key topic at the company's board and management forum and there are initiatives in place to foster a safety-first workplace culture. These include training employees as mental health first aiders, running wellness programmes, having avenues for open, transparent discussions, and conducting regular risk assessments. This is to empower employees to take charge of their own wellbeing, ultimately creating a performance-driven, resilient workforce.

The ISO 45003 and ISO 45001 are part of the ISO 45000 family of standards developed by the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO). While ISO 45003 provides guidance on managing psychosocial risks, ISO 45001 focuses on occupational health and safety and provides a framework for managing physical risks. Combining these standards enables organisations to identify and control employees' physical and psychological risks, resulting in a safer and healthier work environment.
