Toyota Industries Corporation had 19 athletes competing in 6 categories at the 62nd National Skills Competition held from November 22nd to 25th at venues including Aichi International Exhibition Center, with athlete Yasugawa Kimura winning the gold medal in the "machinery assembly" category.

At this national competition, approximately 1,000 young skilled workers selected from each prefecture competed in a total of 41 categories.

1) Machinery Assembly

It is a skill that can be considered the origin of manufacturing, achieving accuracy up to 1/1000mm (1 micron) using metal files for hand finishing, and assembling automatic processing equipment that operates on compressed air. In a competition lasting just under 7 hours, it involves hand-finishing and assembling the main 10 components and 130 surfaces out of over 60 components. Comprehensive skills in hand-finishing, process design, and the ability to analyze and adjust issues are required for machinery assembly.

3年間、金メダルを手にするこの日をめざして訓練してきたので、嬉しい気持ちで胸がいっぱいです。先輩選手の「いつも通り、練習通りやる」というアドバイスを心に刻んで大会に挑みました。「勝つ」という信念を持ち、自分の強みである「荒削り」のスキルを発揮できるよう集中したことが結果につながったのだと思います。今大会が選手としては最後の挑戦となりますが、私がたくさんの方々に支えていただいたように、後輩選手たちが満足のいく成績を残すことができるよう、今後は選手生活で得た知識と技能を伝えていきます。
