Forest Interactive And Axiata Foundation Unveil Green Sprout Challenge Winners

Forest Interactive Foundation, in collaboration with Axiata Foundation, has announced the winners of the Green Sprout Innovation Challenge. The competition, part of the Environmental Education Programme, saw primary school students aged 10 to 12 presenting innovative solutions for urban farming to enhance food security and promote sustainability.

The challenge tasked participants with creating farming systems for small urban spaces, such as apartments and condominiums, focusing on budget-friendly, user-friendly, and recyclable solutions. The winning teams were recognised for their creativity, practicality, and commitment to sustainability.

Winners:

  • SK Bukit Piatu: My Home Farmer – An aquaponic system combining aquaculture and hydroponics. (Prize: RM 3,000)
  • SK Desa Cempaka: Eco-friendly Aquaponic – An aquaponic system using fish waste as plant nutrients. (Prize: RM 2,000)
  • SK Cheras Jaya: Mobifarm – A mobile hydroponics and aquaculture system monitored by Microbit technology. (Prize: RM 1,000)

The winning teams showcased their projects at the #mydigitalmaker Fair from Sept 13-15, 2024 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC).

Johary Mustapha, Founder & CEO of Forest Interactive Foundation, praised the students for their innovative solutions. "The Environmental Education Program and the Green Sprout Innovation Challenge demonstrate our commitment to nurturing young talent and promoting sustainability," he said.

The competition is part of a broader educational initiative aimed at fostering environmental awareness and equipping young Malaysians with digital tools to address sustainability challenges.
