German automaker Porsche is recalling 15,906 Taycan electric vehicles in China owing to fire risks, the country's State Administration for Market Regulation said.

What Happened: A short circuit may occur inside the high-voltage power battery module which may pose a fire risk, the regulator said. As for a temporary solution, the company's dealers will test the high-voltage power batteries and replace them free of charge if any issues are identified.

In the first quarter of 2025, on-board diagnostic software will also be installed on the vehicles which will detect possible problems with the battery models and warn drivers in advance.

The regulator also advised Taycan customers to limit charging their EVs to 80% prior to the fixes being implemented.

Why It Matters: Porsche recalled 1590 Taycan vehicles in May in China citing the same issue.

In October, the company also recalled 27,527 units of the same vehicle in the U.S. over the issue.

The Taycan premium sports sedan is Porsche's first production EV.
