At the opening session, the Malaysian stock exchange's benchmark composite index1 traded up marginally, rising 0.62 of a point to 1,593.06 points as at 9:10am. Turnover stood at 334.14 million shares valued at RM90.64 million.
Approaching late morning, the market gained momentum as the key index rose 5.88 points, or 0.37%, to 1,598.32 points as at 10:42am Nov 18.
Earlier, Press Metal Aluminium Holdings Bhd was actively traded in the early morning session prior to 10am, recording a turnover of over one million2 units/shares, rising 27 sen to reach RM4.67. Meanwhile, United Plantations Bhd rose 36 sen to RM31.31 on a volume of 78,900 units/shares. Malaysia Smelting Corporation Bhd rose 15 sen to 2.41 on a turnover of 589,900 unis/shares. Vstecs Bhd and Allianz Malaysia Bhd both added 14 sen to RM3.64 and RM20.38, respectively.
Meanwhile, PBA Holdings Bhd, a water resources management firm, dropped 16 sen in the early trading session to RM2.19 on a turnover of more than one million3. Beer supplier Heineken Malaysia Bhd and dairy distributor Dutchlady Milk Industries Bhd both declined, giving up 28 sen and 20 sen, respectively. Heineken fell to RM23.72 on a trading volume of 6,000 units/shares. Dutchlady decreased to RM30.02 on a turnover of 11,900 units/shares.
