KPJ Healthcare Launches New Sustainability Policy To Drive Green Healthcare Initiatives

To further strengthen its commitment towards green healthcare and implementing environmental responsible practices across its 29 hospitals, KPJ Healthcare Bhd has on recently launched its Sustainability Policy.

The policy, introduced during KPJ's Sustainability Day, focuses on reducing environmental impact through renewable energy (RE), energy efficiency, waste management and green building standards, aligned with Malaysia's goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050.

As part of this commitment, Damansara Specialist Hospital 2 (DSH2) became the first hospital in KPJ's network to receive the Green Building Index (GBI) certification.

KPJ Healthcare Chairman Tan Sri Dr Ismail Bakar said the GBI certification recognises DSH2's high standards in energy efficiency, sustainable site planning and indoor environmental quality, setting a model for KPJ's other specialist hospitals.

"This policy embeds responsible practices into every area of our operations, helping us reduce our environmental impact while upholding the highest standards of healthcare.

"With the GBI certification for DSH2, we are setting a standard for environmental responsibility that reflects our commitment to the communities we serve," Ismail said in a statement.

Meanwhile, KPJ Healthcare President and Managing Director Chin Keat Chyuan said the policy

directs the group's use of RE, waste management strategies and green building standards across its hospitals.

"Every member of KPJ Healthcare has a role to play in this journey, reinforcing our commitment to a healthier future for both our patients and the planet," Chin said.

Looking ahead, KPJ Healthcare will continue to strengthen its sustainability practices by building on this policy to set new benchmarks for environmentally responsible healthcare.

Through ongoing efforts and future initiatives, KPJ Healthcare aims to establish a healthcare model that prioritises both patient care and environmental responsibility.
