China's NEV production for the full year 2024 is expected to exceed 12 million units.
China's year-to-date new energy vehicle (NEV) production has surpassed the 10 million-vehicle mark, marking the first time annual production has crossed the milestone.
This morning, China's annual NEV production surpassed 10 million units for the first time, becoming the first country in the world to reach 10 million units of NEVs annually, state broadcaster CCTV said in a report citing the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM).
In 2013, the first year that production and sales of NEVs were included in the statistical system, only 18,000 units were produced that year, the report noted.
By 2018, China's annual NEV production reached the million level. By 2022, China's annual NEV production exceeded five million units.
As of today, with a month and a half to go before the end of the year, China's NEV production is up 4.3 percent from last year's annual production of 9.59 million units.
Experts expect that figure to be on track to exceed 12 million units by the end of the year, the CCTV report said.
China's NEV production in October was 1.46 million units, up 47.93 percent year-on-year and up 11.94 percent from September, according to data released by CAAM on November 11.
In the January-October period, China's NEV production reached 9.77 million units, up 33.80 percent year-on-year.
Battery electric vehicle (BEV) production amounted to 5.86 million units in January-October, up 14.06 percent year-on-year.
Plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) production amounted to 3.91 million units in January-October, up 80.73 percent year-on-year.
