OpenAI is calling on the USA and its allies to work together to support the infrastructure needed for the development of ai systems.
The ai startup company stated on Wednesday that the USA and its neighboring countries should establish the "North American Compact for AI" to simplify the acquisition of talents, financing, and supply chains, thereby promoting technological development. The company mentioned that this collaboration could potentially expand to a "global network of usa allies and partners, including countries in the Middle East."
This proposal is included in a new policy blueprint announced by OpenAI at an event in Washington. The document provides OpenAI's most detailed public recommendations to date, outlining how the USA can maintain its leading position in the field of ai and meet the technology's significant energy demands.
"Ai provides an unmissable opportunity to revitalize American industry, bringing broad-based economic growth to revive the American Dream," said OpenAI. "It also addresses the urgent need for national security, promoting individual choices by providing ai to benefit as many people as possible, thereby protecting our country and allies."
OpenAI's leadership had attempted to raise billions of dollars from investors in the Middle East and other markets to expand the supply of chips, energy, and datacenters needed for ai development. CEO Sam Altman also met with US officials to seek their support.
Chris Lehane, OpenAI's Vice President of Global Affairs, stated at a policy meeting on Wednesday that the startup had spent "a lot of time" discussing the infrastructure needs for ai with the Biden administration and the Trump team.
"I am an optimist," said Lehane. "I believe this will be one of the areas of focus for the next Congress and the next administration, as it is of great importance."
