To catch up with competitors in the smart home market, Apple is close to launching a new product category - a wall-mounted display that can control home appliances, handle video conferences, and utilize artificial intelligence navigation applications.
According to the Securities Times APP, in order to catch up with competitors in the smart home market, Apple (AAPL.US) is close to launching a new product category - a wall-mounted display that can control home appliances, handle video conferences, and utilize artificial intelligence navigation applications. Informed sources revealed that Apple is preparing to release this product as early as March next year, positioning it as a home command center. This product, codenamed "J490", will also focus on the new Apple Intelligence artificial intelligence platform.
Apple CEO Cook believes that this product can make Apple a force in the smart home field. In recent years, Apple has been lagging behind Alphabet (GOOGL.US) and Amazon (AMZN.US) in this field. It is reported that Cook has prioritized this product as a priority for the company's engineering and design department, preparing to launch it to the market after more than three years of research and development.
Reports indicate that the screen of this new product is about 6 inches, resembling a square iPad in appearance, equivalent in size to two iPhones placed side by side; the screen is surrounded by a thick border; there is a camera at the top front, along with built-in speakers and a rechargeable built-in battery. Apple plans to offer two color choices, silver and black.
This product has a touch interface that looks like a blend of the operating system of the Apple Watch and the StandBy mode of the iPhone introduced this year. However, Apple expects that most people will interact with the device using voice, relying on Apple's voice assistant Siri and Apple Intelligence.
Reports also point out that this product is designed using App Intents. App Intents is a new framework supported by Apple that allows developers to integrate Siri and Apple Intelligence on Apple's system platforms such as iOS. Its main functions include directly controlling apps through Siri, such as users giving commands directly to Siri for direct interaction with the app to perform tasks. It also allows users to directly search for app content in Spotlight search without the need to open the app separately.
This product is expected to compete with Amazon's Echo Show, Echo Hub smart displays, and Alphabet (GOOGL.US)'s Nest Hub. Apple also plans to launch a higher-priced version equipped with a movable screen arm. Apple plans to market this product as a home companion with artificial intelligence personality. Sources say that the pricing of this high-end product could go up to $1000. While the price of the aforementioned wall-mounted display product will be close to competitors' prices - Echo Show 8 is priced at $150, Echo Hub at $180, and Nest Hub Max at $230.
