In the New York foreign exchange market on the 12th, the Dollar-Yen pair rose from 154.05 yen to 154.92 yen, closing at 154.62 yen. Improved economic prospects led to increased dollar buying as long-term interest rate increases amid speculation of a slowdown in the Federal Reserve Board's rate cuts. The Euro-Dollar pair fell from 1.0627 dollars to 1.0595 dollars, closing at 1.0625 dollars. Unexpected deterioration in the German November ZEW Economic Sentiment Index, coupled with fears that tariff policies by the upcoming Trump administration could slow European economic growth and potentially lead to aggressive rate cuts by the European Central Bank (ECB), continued to exert selling pressure on the Euro.

NY Crude Oil futures for December edged slightly higher (NYMEX Crude Oil December futures closing price: 68.12, up 0.08).
