2,300 entries were submitted for paintings and photographs, and the Nippon Yusen Award has been decided.
Our group's company, Yusen Cruise Co., Ltd., announced the awarding and selection of 126 works for the "Asuka III" art competition exhibition for the new cruise ship "Asuka III," scheduled to start operating in 2025, on November 11th.
The exhibition, with the theme of 'Traveling the Four Seasons of Japan,' collected about 2,300 entries of paintings and photographs from the general public from late May. Seven judges, including Japanese painters Reiji Hiramatsu, Reiichi Tsuchiya, Hiroshi Chizu, Noriko Tamura, a Living National Treasure in lacquer art Kazumi Murose, marine photographer Nobuo Nakamura, and Asuka Cruise Ambassador Kaoru Oyama, rigorously evaluated the entries to be displayed on the "Asuka III."
Our company, as a sponsor of the exhibition, selected Mr. Ukyo Takagi's work 'My town full of ships (Tahara)' for the Nippon Yusen Award. This piece expresses the joy of a sea voyage with views visible from a ship-shaped form, including marine creatures and fireworks. It also conveys various values to the people around the ship, including the wind power generation facilities and other businesses that our company is involved in, embodying the company group's corporate philosophy 'Bringing value to life.' Mr. Takagi commented, 'I have drawn inspiration from the sea, including experiences of watching my father work on ships since I was young. I have focused solely on drawing, after receiving the invitation from Attic Art, in my free time after work and on holidays. I am truly happy to receive this award. I would like to express my gratitude to everyone who has supported me.'
The award-winning and selected works will be permanently exhibited on board the "Asuka III" for approximately two years. We look forward to welcoming many of you on board the "Asuka III" when it sets sail in 2025.
